Xiao Hui Wang - Eros of flowers

Eros of Flowers (1999–2004)

The Eros of Flowers stands as one of Xiao Hui Wang’s most iconic and highly sought-after photographic series.

Artistic Vision In this visionary body of work, Wang explores the sensual, almost corporeal nature of flora. By moving her lens intimately close to the calyxes and intricate inner structures of blossoms—including lotuses, tulips, orchids, poppies, and roses—she transforms them into poetic, abstract landscapes brimming with color, energy, and intimacy. Her images seamlessly merge concepts of Eros and transience, capturing the delicate balance between beauty and transformation to create a profound metaphor for life itself.

Personal Significance For the artist, this series represents a profound act of personal liberation. Using the natural world as her medium, Wang broke away from the austere cultural restrictions of her Maoist upbringing. Through The Eros of Flowers, she forged a vibrant, universal visual vocabulary defined by sensuality, freedom, and unapologetic emotion.
